| | The year 1954 was a very special one for the hotel. The German national football club, including its legendary coach, Seppl Herberger and unforgettable team captain Fritz Walter, spent 4 weeks at the Belvédère during that year’s World Cup. The German side credited the hotel’s pleasant ambience and unique setting for contributing to its upset victory in the final, remembered as the “Miracle of Bern”. Football experts are in agreement that the famous fighting spirit that the German squad has been know for through the years, was born in 1954 when the highly underrated Germans overcame the odds to defeat the powerful Hungarians to win the cup with a last minute goal, 3-2.
